In our fast-paced, noisy lives, it is rare that something makes you sit up and listen. Clare Balding was commanding the radio as I drove past Chichester train station… ‘and here I am walking the Centurion Way, in Chichester, with Anne and Matt Masson’. I sat bolt upright and listened intently.

We have the privilege of Anne & Matt being part of our community at The Boxgrove. They are an inspirational mother and son team who have a true passion for life and a humbling story to tell. In 2010, Matt fell 26ft through a roof in London and suffered a severe brain injury. As they were walking the Centurion Way they were chatting to Clare about Matt’s recovery and his dogged determination to ski again.

It is not unusual to read in the press about a miracle recovery but seeing it in really life is starkly life-affirming. Matt is a young man in his prime who against all stereo-types exudes an air of ambition and energy. After a long road of recovery he is confidently back on the slopes. Tricks and all. At his side, rock-like is Anne, a cool, calm constant.

Below is a video of Matt & Anne’s story. Anne & Matt do not shout their story noisily but instead they live it… leading by example. If ever there were two people to inspire, it is Anne & Matt.
